DIY Christmas Decorations

By JoannaPosted on September 12, 20252min read

Christmas is by far the most popular holiday to decorate for. But those decorations can be pricey, especially if you want to stick to a certain theme or aesthetic. This winter, I’m on a mission to decorate my house on a budget. My goal is to make decorations that are either simple and inexpensive enough to make every year, or something that will last for years to come. So come with me on my journey to find some beautiful and classic DIY Christmas Decorations!

Frosted Mason Jar Luminaries

Frosted jars made with empty glass jars covered in epsom salt to look like snow, small fir tree pieces tied to the tops of the jars with twine and a wooden button

You can save glass jars for this project and find some greenery from your back yard. This tutorial uses LED tea lights to light these Christmas decorations up, but if you want to use regular tea lights those should work fine, too. You’ll use epsom salt to cover the jars to get that beautiful frosted glass look.

Pom Pom Christmas Garland

This is one of the cutest garlands I’ve ever seen! You can hang along a fireplace mantel like shown in the picture, string it along your Christmas tree, even hang it over a doorway. I always have a crazy amount of left over yarn, so this project is a no brainer. It’s very beginner friendly, and you can obviously pick any color combination you like. This tutorial uses a tool to make Pom Poms, which I think I’ll go ahead and invest in because now I see a lot of Pom Pom making in my future! Find the tutorial here.
